WBGU
The WBGU (Wissenschaftlicher Beirat der Bundesregierung für Globale Umweltveränderungen) is an independent scientific advisory board of the German Federal Government. It was set up in 1992, after the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
This interdisciplinary Council deals with global human interactions with the natural environment, including climate change, biodiversity loss, soil degradation and water pollution.
The Council submits reports to the Federal Government on a regular basis with recommendations for action and research on current issues of global change. The nine Council members are appointed for a four-year term. Prof. Nina Buchmann was a Council member from November 2004 to October 2008.
