Our Mission Statement

The multidisciplinary research of the Grassland Sciences group focuses on the process- and system-oriented understanding of plant and ecosystem physiology, functional plant diversity, and biogeochemistry in agroecosystems and forests, in particular the biosphere-atmosphere greenhouse gas exchange, in response to management and environmental drivers, across spatial and temporal scales.

We use classical ecological methods and further develop innovative tools, such as stable isotope applications and micrometeorological measurements of trace gases, in our observational and experimental studies.

Teaching of Bachelor's and Master's students as well as training of postgraduates builds on our process- and system-oriented research, integrates state-of-the-art knowledge, but also provides ample opportunities to practise scientific soft skills. Mentoring and coaching plays an important role in our teaching and training philosophy. Thus, we also participate in the education of interns and exchange students.

We contribute to knowledge transfer into society, particularly into schools, and engage in a dialogue with society and stakeholders in policy.

Our team is based on fairness, support, professionalism and open discourse. We value all aspects of diversity. Our work fulfils the highest quality standards. Scientific responsibility and integrity guide all our activities.
